NBA Rookie of the Year Odds Will Certainly Shift Following Chet Holmgren Injury News

Just like that the NBA Rookie of the Year odds will be shifting.

In the most recent odds to win 2022-23 NBA Rookie of the Year, Oklahoma City’s Chet Holmgren, the No. 2 overall pick out of Gonzaga, was the second favorite at Caesars Sportsbook to win the esteemed NBA award. Chet was only behind Orlando’s Paolo Banchero, the No. 1 overall pick from Duke. But now it appears all the books have taken the odds down with the news that Holmgren has ligament damage in his foot that could potentially cost him months.

Prior to the odds being halted, Chet Holmgren was+375, while Orlando’s Paolo Banchero was at+280.

See the  Odds for Rookie of the Year Award below:

Holmgren got hurt while the 7-foot-1, 190-pounder was guarding LeBron James during retired NBA player Jamal Crawford’s “CrawsOver” Pro-Am event in Seattle. Holmgren tried to prevent James from attacking the rim on a fast break, but Holmgren landed awkwardly and appeared to tweak his right ankle.

Watch the play he injured himself below:

With Chet Holmgren as the 2nd best odds on the board, the biggest boost should be to Paolo Banchero.

It kind of felt like Banchero and Chet were in their own tier. This news will only widen his gap from the rest of the field.

Until there’s some more concrete news on his injury, the books will probably keep that bet off the books.  With potential torn ligaments in that right foot looming, Holmgren might just be out of the running already.
