Shortly after the Lakers fired Frank Vogel as head coach, it was revealed that they were interested in landing Sixers coach Doc Rivers.

And now, NBA insider Marc Stein is claiming the Lakers haven’t ‘abandoned hope’ that Doc Rivers will become available to them at some point this offseason.

Lakers fans became immediately upset with the latest Doc Rivers report.

Last week, it was reported that LeBron James had made it known that he would prefer Bucks assistant Darvin Ham as the next Lakers coach over Doc Rivers and other potential candidates.

Per Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus:

“The Lakers may be willing to take that leap of faith because Ham spent two years with the organization. His personality isn’t easily forgotten. Ham brings a lot of energy to a gym. He’s arguably the best fit for the locker room, with veterans like LeBron James, Anthony Davis and possibly Russell Westbrook in need of a coach they can relate to and respect.

“He’s the guy LeBron wants,” a competing source said.

It will be up to Ham to spell out his basketball vision, in general and in context to the Lakers’ roster makeup. He could be the hire if he can sell that side to the team’s front office.”

It’s hard to imagine the Lakers would bring in Doc Rivers over some of the other options out there. But for now, it seems like he’s sticking around in Philly for at least another year, anyways.

We’ll see where the Lakers’ coaching search goes.
