LeBron James is locked and loaded for another two seasons.

This big contract extension comes with a player option in the second year, however, it guarantees LeBron’s commitment to the Los Angeles Lakers for at least the next two seasons. Reports surfaced earlier in the day that the Lakers brass and LeBron spoke about roster decisions prior to him signing the contract. Does that include trying to acquire LeBron’s old running mate, Kyrie? The Lakers initially wanted to trade for Kyrie Irving but didn’t want to give up two draft picks. Now, it appears that stance has changed.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Lakers will send the Nets two first-round picks for Kyrie Irving. If the Lakers can’t get Kyrie, they will go after players like Buddy Hield and Myles Turner. However, they’re still holding off on offering both picks for that non-Kyrie package:

Watch Woj explain below:

The Los Angeles Lakers understand how special Kyrie Irving is on the basketball court, and they seem willing to overlook all of the drama that always follows Kyrie around wherever he plays. GM Sean Marks and owner Joe Tsai are likely waiting on what happens with Kevin Durant, who the Nets are still trying to talk off the ledge after his league-rocking trade request.

The NBA offseason continues to bring the drama.
