Donovan Mitchell Trade Rumors: Knicks Trade Package Sent To Jazz Revealed Amid Offseason Reports

Will Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell be moved during the offseason?

Since it was reported that the Jazz were willing to part ways with Mitchell, the Knicks emerged as an immediate potential suitor. But for now, the Jazz appear to be holding out for a higher return.

According to reports, the Knicks remain in contact with the Jazz about a potential deal centered around Donovan Mitchell. But nothing is “imminent” as of now.

Per The Athletic’s Shams Charania:

“The Jazz and Knicks are in discussions on a trade that would send Donovan Mitchell to New York, according to sources. A deal is not considered imminent yet, but the Knicks are motivated to acquire Mitchell and have proposed new packages to Utah’s new front office led by CEO Danny Ainge.

New York made a recent offer of Evan Fournier, Obi Toppin, additional salary and two unprotected first-round draft picks (five total), league sources tell me and The Athletic’s Tony Jones. The Jazz’s asking price has been more significant than that.”

It’s clear that Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau and the rest of the team’s brass is keen on making a big splash this offseason. They have already sent a 2022 lottery pick to lock down their point guard of the future — trading for former Mavs guard Jalen Brunson, but they’re still looking for upgrades.

Last season, the Knicks followed up an exciting 2020-21 campaign with a dismal 37-45 record, and will be looking at a 50 year championship drought if things continue next season.

“Getting from 47 wins to 57 wins, that’s harder than 37 to 47,’’ a coaching source said to NY Post.

The Knicks know the time is now to build around their young core, and an addition such as Donovan Mitchell would most definitely align with their offseason plan. But for now, the Jazz have an asking price that’s just too damn high.
