Zach Plesac Injury: Guardians Pitcher Heavily Ridiculed After Injuring Hand While Punching Pitcher’s Mound

The Cleveland Guardians will be without starting pitcher Zach Plesac during the worst time. And the injury was completely avoidable.

During a start last week, Plesac knew he had given up a home run. And in a fit of rage, the young right-hander knelt down and punched the pitcher’s mound.

On Friday, the Guardians announced that Zach Plesac was being placed on the 15-day injured list with a broken hand.

This isn’t the first time that Plesac is going to have to miss time for something he could have avoided. Last season, Plesac had to miss over a month for breaking his thumb while “aggressively ripping off his shirt”. In the 2020 season, he was forced to miss starts after violating COVID protocol during a trip to Chicago. He would later go on a rant against the protocols in a since-deleted Instagram video.

Now, the Guardians will be forced to go on without Plesac’s services (once again) during a critical time. After losing to the Mariners to open their critical weekend series, the Guardians are now at 68-62 on the season, just one game ahead of the Twins for first place in the AL Central.

When speaking on the injury to Plesac, Guardians manager Terry Francona admitted that the “best case” scenario for the pitcher would be the have a splint cover up the hand injury, having him ready to go again in about a week’s time.

Still, given the history of Zach Plesac, Guardians fans have to be wondering if they have a problem on their hands.
