Yankees Reportedly Eyeing Two Starting Pitchers With Trade Deadline Looming

New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman had some more bad news for his fan base about superstar Aaron Judge prior to Opening Day on Friday

Cashman had suspected that the Houston Astros had been breaking rules against electronic sign stealing long before Commissioner Rob Manfred released his report in January that resulted in three big league managers losing their jobs. "I'll acknowlege at that we had many a conversion with Major League Baseball the last number of years about suspicions, but having suspicions and being able to prove it are two different things," Cashman said Friday, Feb. 14, 2020. The yankees have asserted themselves as perennial championship contenders in the first half of the season. But even so, general manager Brian Cashman knows there’s work to do.

With the Trade Deadline looming, the reports are indicating that the Yankees are prioritizing one aspect for improvement: starting pitching.

Even though their rotation has been stellar thus far, there’s always room for improvement, and some regression to the mean is to be expected out of their rotational pieces.

Fittingly, the Yanks are now being linked to two of the top starting pitchers on the market: A’s pitcher Frankie Montas and Reds’ Luis Castillo.

The Yankees have been linked to Luis Castillo for the past several weeks, but appear to have added Frankie Montas to their radar now, as well.

Still, the Bronx Bombers sit 11.5 games over the second place Blue Jays in the AL East. But with the Astros lurking for the #1 seed in the AL, expect New York to be very aggressive at the deadline.

This Yankees team is already pretty damn good, but I think everyone in and around baseball is expecting them to be even better once the stretch run of the season rolls around.
