It remains unknown when/if we’ll see Tony La Russa in the Chicago White Sox dugout next.

Before Tuesday night’s game against the Kansas City Royals, the White Sox announced that bench coach Miguel Cairo would be taking over the managerial duties after La Russa suffered a health scare prior to the game.

On Wednesday, the reports coming out of Chicago are that the 77 year old skipper will be ‘out indefinitely’ as he’s heading to Arizona to see his personal doctors.

Per USA Today’s Bob Nightengale:

Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa will be out indefinitely while undergoing tests on his heart, according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation.

The person spoke to USA TODAY on the condition of anonymity because the White Sox had yet to make an announcement.

La Russa will fly to Phoenix on Wednesday night and is scheduled to see doctors Thursday at the Mayo Clinic.

La Russa, 77, baseball’s oldest manager, recently had tests by a cardiologist in Chicago, who recommended Tuesday night that he miss the game against the Kansas City Royals. La Russa underwent further tests Wednesday and it was advised that he see heart specialists.

After the loss to the Royals on Tuesday night, Tony La Russa’s White Sox fell to six games behind the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central despite being heavy favorites to win the division coming into the season.

Throughout their disappointing season, La Russa has vowed to right the ship, but now it remains to be seen whether or not he’ll ever manage in the MLB again.

We’ll continue to track for more details regarding the scary Tony La Russa news.
