Philly Fans Celebrate The Firing Of Joe Girardi

After a tumultuous start to the Phillies’ season, manager Joe Girardi has been let go.

The Phillies announced this morning that effective immediately, Girardi will be relieved of his duties, with bench coach Rob Thompson taking over for the remainder of the season.

The raucous Philly fans have been calling for Joe Girardi to be let go for a while now, so when they finally pulled the plug, fans rejoiced on social media.

Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski spoke on the decision to fire Joe Girardi.

“It has been a frustrating season for us up until this point, as we feel that our club has not played up to its capabilities,” Dombrowski said in a statement. “While all of us share the responsibility for the shortcomings, I felt that a change was needed and that a new voice in the clubhouse would give us the best chance to turn things around.”

The Phillies went into buyer mode this offseason, bringing in the likes of Nick Castellanos and Kyle Schwarber. But as the find themselves over 10 games out of a playoff spot, they’ll need to pick up the pieces fast before this whole year turns into a wash.

The Philly fans may be excited with the news today, but they have a long way to go before they can get their dismal season turned around.
