Are the Angels actually considering trading Shohei Ohtani prior to next week’s deadline?

Last week, reports began to surface that the Angels might be willing to take calls on Ohtani, and sure enough, oddsmakers were quick to put out a list of potential favorites to acquire baseball’s hottest commodity.

At the top of the list was the San Diego Padres, followed by the Cardinals and Mets.

However, now a new team is entering the fold for Shohei Ohtani’s services: the Los Angeles Dodgers.

According to MLB insider Jon Morosi, the Dodgers have ‘tried to engage’ with the Angels on potentially having Shohei sent to the other side of town.

With all the rumors swirling, Shohei Ohtani was recently asked if he’d be open to playing for a contender in the near future.

“Regardless of where I’m playing, I’m going to give it my all and try to win that ballgame in front of me,” Ohtani said. “I’m with the Angels right now, and I’m very thankful for what they’ve done. I love my team and my teammates. Right now I’m an Angel, and that’s all I can focus on.”

While it would be great for the game of baseball to have Shohei Ohtani in the playoffs, I still view a potential trade as a long shot. He simply means too much to the Angels organization from a financial standpoint for ownership to ‘ok’ a deal right now.

But perhaps a team such as at the Dodgers can offer a package so great that the Angels can’t pass up.
