Even after Tiger Woods’ miraculous comeback to the PGA, he won’t be continuing his longtime rivalry with Phil Mickelson.
After some controversial comments about the new Said-backed league, Mickelson took a break from competitive golf. Despite originally planning to make his return to defend his title at the PGA Championship, Mickelson withdrew last week, leading to much more speculation about his future.
With all the buzz around Phil Mickelson out there, the latest report is that he just isn’t confident in his golf game right now.
The San Diego rumor mill has Phil playing bad golf at local courses. I’ve heard two recent rounds in the high-70s at The Farms, which factored into the pass on PGA.

When speaking on Phil Mickelson’s Absence, Tiger Woods re-iterated his disagreements with the latest comments from the popular lefty.
“He has his opinion on where he sees the game of golf going; I have my viewpoint on how I see the game of golf and I’ve supported the Tour and my foundation has run events on the Tour for a number of years,’’ Woods said during a 30-minute interview session with reporters in advance of the PGA Championship via SI.
Tiger Woods would go on to say that he has not reached out to Phil Mickelson.
“I just think what Jack (Nicklaus) and Arnold (Palmer) have done in starting the Tour and breaking away from the PGA of America and creating our Tour (in 1968) … I just think there’s a legacy to that,” Woods said. “I’ve been playing out here for a couple of decades, and I think there’s a legacy to it. I still think the PGA Tour has so much to offer, so much opportunity.
“I understand different viewpoints, but I believe in legacies. I believe in major championships. I believe in big events, comparisons to historical figures in the past. There’s plenty of money out here. The Tour is growing. But you have to go out there and earn it. You’ve got to go out there and play for it. We have the opportunity to go ahead and do it. It’s just not guaranteed up front.’’
Tiger Woods has still never delved into his opinions not he LIV Tour set to try to compete with the PGA Tour. But after his latest comments about Phil Mickelson, it’s pretty clear that he’s completely against the whole thing.
That should mean a lot to golfers who may be on the fence about leaving the PGA.
