Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are now taking matters into their own hands when competing against the Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour.

Earlier today, the PGA announced some changes to their tour that will make them a little but more player-friendly. And shortly thereafter, McIlroy and Woods announced a new league altogether.

In partnership with the PGA, the new “TGL” league will have six three-man teams competing for 15 regular season matches beginning in January of 2024.

The league will incorporate technology to allow the golfers to hit shots using a simulator, before using authentic greens and chipping areas for the approach shots.

Check out an inside look at what the new league will offer golf fans:

While Tiger Woods only played in three tournaments this season after recovering from his scary car crash from last year, this league may allow the GOAT to play in front of an audience on a more regular basis.

“Who knows where we’re going to see Tiger Woods play golf next, right?” McIlroy said via ESPN. “We don’t know what his schedule is going to be. We don’t know how his body is going to be. But to be able to see him still showcase his skills on prime time, on TV without really any wear and tear on his body, I think to be able to see Tiger hit golf shots and still sort of provide people with a glimpse of his genius — I think it is a really good use of his time.”

In a statement, Tiger Woods lamented embracing technology to create the “next evolution within professional golf.”

“Embracing technology to create this unique environment gives us the ability to move our sport into primetime on a consistent basis alongside so many of sports’ biggest events,” Woods said in the statement. “As a big sports fan myself, I’m excited about blending golf with technology and team elements common in other sports.

“We all know what it’s like to be in a football stadium or a basketball arena where you can watch every play, every minute of action unfold right in front of you. It’s something that inherently isn’t possible in traditional golf — and an aspect of TGL that will set it apart and appeal to a new generation of fans.”

Clearly this TGL league will provide some PGA players with the chance to showcase their skills in a different way. And perhaps both Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy (who have both adamantly spoken out against LIV) have found a way to create their own, interesting rebuttal to the Saudi league.
