LeBron James’ son, Bronny James, could probably choose whatever university he wants for college ball, but perhaps he’s thinking a little outside the box.

According to a report, a new surprising team has entered the mix for Bronny: the Rutgers Scarlett Knights.

“One school making an unexpected push to recruit James is Rutgers, a basketball striver.” Adam Zagoria of the New York Times wrote (h/t 247Sports). “As far-fetched as it might seem, Rutgers is hoping Coach Steve Pikiell’s strong record of development — turning lightly regarded recruits such as Geo Baker, Ron Harper Jr. and Myles Johnson into decorated Big Ten players — carries some appeal to James.”

Obviously, Rutgers is far from a powerhouse, but perhaps they’re recent string of solid seasons appeals to Bronny James and his family.

Also, the Knights were able to haul in the #36 ranked prospect in the nation, Gavin Griffiths, for their 2023 class.

Still, it feels like a long shot that Bronny James legitimately ends up at Rutgers, but it’s interesting that he’s open to the possibility, for now.
