Nebraska OC Mark Whipple Responds to Scott Frost Throwing Him Under the Bus After Northwestern Loss

It’s a pretty depressing time to be a Nebraska cornhuskers fan, and head coach Scott Frost has to know his seat is beyond hot at this point.

After losing their opening game against Northwestern despite being heavy favorites, Frost threw some shade at new offensive play-caller Mark Whipple over his lack of creativity.

“I think our offensive staff has to learn you’ve got to be a little more creative in this league,” Frost said in the post-game press conference. That offensive staff, it should be pointed out, have coached exactly one game for the Cornhuskers.

During his media availability today, Whipple said he was completely unaware of the comment made by Scott Frost.

“I like you guys. It doesn’t mean I read you,” Whipple said to reporters. “Hey, we got to get better in all parts. I told the guys, we got to coach better. I got to call better plays. I got to coach better. You guys got to play and we’ve got to stay together and we’ve got to finish. And that’s really the message.”

To Mark Whipple’s credit, it’s hard to really blame the bulk of Nebraska’s loss on offensive production. After all, their 28 points scored was more than they accomplished in over half their games last season.

In the end, it was a defensive unit that allowed a notoriously stagnant Northwestern offense to score 31 points that ended up being their downfall.

After receiving some backlash for his comment, Scott Frost tried claiming that his ‘creativity’ remark was not directed at Mark Whipple.

“Coach Whip’s really good,” he said.
