Iowa Fans are Completely Disgusted With Quarterback Spencer Petras During Dismal Offensive Showing vs. South Dakota State

It’s safe to say the Iowa Hawkeyes are setting themselves up for another brutal offensive season under quarterback Spencer Petras.

After an offseason QB competition, veteran coach Kirk Ferentz turned over the offense to Petras for the third consecutive season, and it doesn’t appear that it’ll go any better this time around.

Facing a lowly South Dakota State Jackrabbits squad, Petras and the offense have not been able to find their footing.

In the fourth quarter of the matchup, Petras is currently 11-24 for just 109 yards and an interception.

Iowa fans have acted accordingly to the Petras performance, blasting the senior QB all over social media.

The QB competition was between Spencer Petras, Alex Padilla and Joe Labas for Iowa. But early on it became apparent that Padilla and Petras were the only two who had the trust of Ferentz.

“Joe is obviously as I said back five weeks ago, he’s behind the other two as far as knowing what to do,” Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz said of Labas after an open practice.

It’s hard to imagine Alex Padilla would perform any worse than Spencer Petras. But evidently that was the case all throughout the Summer competition.

“It’s a long evaluation, and we evaluate everything, we tell our guys starting in January. Obviously we’re not doing football stuff, and both Spencer and Alex are both quality guys, but just the time on the field, I think Spencer has outperformed Alex a little bit at this point. He’s further ahead and gives us a better chance to be successful. That’s not to diminish what Alex has done. Both have improved.

“Now the thing is can we put this whole thing together and be a little bit more productive offensively. Both guys have done a good job. Spencer has continued to climb,” Ferentz said.
