Doug Edert couldn’t have fathomed how his life was about to change prior to March Madness. But now, he finds himself a household name.

During Saint Peter’s magical run to the Elite Eight, Edert stole the hearts of sports fans all over the country with his unassuming appearance and gritty style of play. Not only that, but Edert proved to be a catalyst in the Peacocks defeating some of the top teams across the country.

Now that the tournament is over, several players and coaches from the Cinderella Saint Peter’s team are moving on to bigger and better things, and that includes Doug Edert.

It was announced earlier today that the star player was planning on entering the transfer portal this year.

Doug Edert released a statement on his decision.

“I want to start by thanking my family, friends, coaches, teammates and Peacock Nation for an amazing three years at Saint Peter’s University. I have nothing but love for everyone who has been by my side throughout my journey,” Edert wrote. “With that being said, I have entered the transfer portal. I’m excited for what is to come and looking forward to exploring all opportunities for my basketball career.”

Doug Edert joins head coach Shaheen Holloway in leaving the Saint Peter’s program. Holloway will now be the head coach of Seton Hall, where he played his college basketball.

Peacock players Daryl Banks and Matthew Lee also entered the transfer portal shortly after the team’s loss to North Carolina in the Elite Eight.

Despite the Saint Peter’s career coming to an end for a lot of the key members of the dream run, it’s safe to say Doug Edert and the others will always be remembered for what they were able to accomplish this season for a small school in New Jersey.
