For most of the MLB season, the New York Yankees looked like the clear favorite to win the World Series, and their odds reflected that. But recently, it’s been a different story altogether.

New York went into Fenway Park this weekend hoping that a set with the bitter rival, Red Sox, would trurn their recent slide around.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. The Yankees continued to struggle offensively, losing the rubber match last night thanks to a gem by Red Sox right-hander Michael Wacha.

Now, the Yankees find themselves behind a few teams when it comes to their odds to win the World Series.

Following their loss on Sunday, Yankees manager Aaron Boone pointed to injuries when discussing the recent slide.

“We got shut out today, and that’s going to happen over a long haul,” Boone told reporters, per MLB.com. “You try to take a bigger snapshot look, and the offense has been going pretty solid. You’re going to have these games where you struggle a little bit, a couple of guys out of the lineup, beat up a little bit. A hot pitcher can make it tough on a given night.”

While the Yankees slide of 8-14 since the All-Star Break, other teams such as the Dodgers and Astros have asserted themselves as clear favorites to for a World Series birth.

Especially the Dodgers, who had won 12 games in a row before losing to the Royals on Sunday afternoon.

It’s clear that the Vegas oddsmakers see four teams as true World Series favorites at this point: the Dodgers, Astros, Yankees and Mets.

It should be a fun rest of the MLB season.
