Chris Godwin Fantasy Football Outlook: Where The Buccaneers Receiver Ranks As He Continues ACL Injury Recovery

Perhaps one of the most perplexing questions coming into fantasy football drafts is: what should we do about Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin?

Last year, Godwin suffered a torn ACL, and while his rehab has been going according to plan, it doesn’t appear that he’ll be available for the start of the regular season.

However, Godwin has now taken a significant step in his recovery.

“Another small but significant step for Bucs receiver Chris Godwin, who has ramped up from individual drills to 7-on-7 work in the last two days of practice. Slow, careful progress as he returns from knee surgery,” Bucs reporter Greg Auman tweeted out recently.

Chris Godwin Fantasy Football Outlook

Per our Stokastic fantasy football cheat sheet, Chris Godwin currently ranks as the 23rd ranked receiver in a normal PPR league. But obviously the unknown surrounding his knee injury plays a role in where he’s currently slated.

Last season, Godwin was a fantasy football monster, catching 98 passes for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns in just 14 games played before injury.

Earlier in Training Camp, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles preached patience when talking about Chris Godwin’s injury recovery.

“He doesn’t have to be ready. We want him for the long haul. We don’t want him running around, looking good and then getting hurt,” Bowles said via Pewter Report. “We’re going through all the protocols and doing all the little things for him. It’s good to see him in pads, but he’s got some tests to pass and some ways to go. We’re not rushing him by no means. We just want him healthy for the long haul, so once we get down the road and make that determination, we’ll go from there. But there’s not a fast way to have him ready for the season.”

Unless he suffers a setback, Chris Godwin should be available for the bulk of the Buccaneers season, and he’ll undoubtedly remain a top target for Tom Brady whenever he’s ready to suit up on Sundays.
