Serena Williams Makes Honest Admission Following First Round Wimbledon Exit

Serena Williams was back at Wimbledon — the event where she had many of her top moments during her illustrious career.

But coming back from a long injury hiatus, Williams was a mere shell of the decorated tennis player who dominated the sport for so many years.

Even though she had plenty of opportunities to put away Harmony Tan, she faltered down the stretch, and would eventually lose the match in a third set tiebreak.

During her post-match press conference, Serena Williams admitted to all of us and herself that this was the best she could do today given the circumstances.

“I gave all I could do today,” she admitted. “Maybe tomorrow or a week ago I could have gave more but today is what I could do. At some point you have to be able to be OK with that and that’s all I can do. I can’t change time or anything so that’s all I could do on this particular day.”

The big question remains: what’s next for Serena Williams?

At this point, it’s entirely possible that even she doesn’t know. The women’s tennis GOAT still has to collect her thoughts and see how her body responds before deciding when we’ll see her on the court next.

Hopefully, she continues to get stronger, and the next time we see her in a major, it’s more of the vintage Serena Williams we’ve grown so accustomed to seeing over the years.

Unfortunately, that was simply not the case today at Wimbledon.
