Willson Contreras’s Cryptic Tweet Has Many Fans Thinking He’s Done In Chicago

Is Willson Contreras about the be the latest member of the 2016 World Series Championship Chicago Cubs team to take his talents elsewhere?

Despite the fact that Cubs ownership assured fans they’d be spenders this offseason, the team has stayed on the sidelines for the most part while a bunch of big contracts are being signed all over the MLB.

In a much more minor move (relative to what’s going on around the league), the Cubs inked veteran catcher Yan Gomes to a short two-year contract.

Shortly after the Cubs signed another catcher, Willson Contreras took to Twitter to send out a cryptic message.

Fans were quick to assume this meant Willson Contreras was preparing to play elsewhere.

Willson Contreras currently has just one year remaining on his contract with the Cubs. And no reports indicate the team has engaged in any contract extension talks with the fan-favorite.

The catcher is coming off an injury-plagued down year in 2021. But still remains one of the top defensive catchers in the game, who can fill in pretty much anywhere in most MLB lineups.

If Willson Contreras’s Twitter activity is any indication of things to come, we could be seeing a trade in the near future.
