Fans Weren’t Pleased With Patrick Kane And Jonathan Toews’ Comments On Assault Findings

Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews have provided Chicagoans with some of the very best moments in the city’s storied sports history. But they find themselves under the microscope thanks to something that happened over a decade ago.

During the 2010 playoff run, a player came forward to tell the team that he was sexually assaulted by video coach, Brad Aldrich. The player revealed himself as Kyle Beach late Wednesday afternoon, and the initial investigation finding paint a grim picture on a cover up from the team at the time.

Following the OT loss against the Maple Leafs, Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews opted to speak highly of former GM Stan Bowman – who was fired earlier in the week after the Aldrich findings were announced.

“How the situation went down, what the timeline was, what they knew, I can’t really comment on that,” Toews said via The Athletic. “It’s obviously a tough day, regardless of mistakes that may have been made, for someone like Stan, who has done so much for the Blackhawks — and Al as well — to lose everything they care about and their livelihoods as well. … I don’t understand how that makes it go away, to just delete them from existence and (say), ‘That’s it, we’ll never hear from them again.’

“I have a lot of respect for them as people. They’re good people. When it comes down to how they feel looking back on the situation, that’s not up to me to comment on.”

Patrick Kane joined Jonathan Toews in speaking highly of Stan Bowman in the aftermath of his departure.

“I knew Stan very well, know him as a great man,” Kane said. “He did a lot for me personally, coming into the league and over the course of my career. I’m sure he would’ve handled things differently nowadays. What happened happened in the past, and I think the organization made the right moves to get the Blackhawks going forward in the right steps and making sure they’re trending forward.”

Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews would go on to share their sympathy for Kyle Beach – and Kane even offered to have a conversation with his former teammate. But above else, their loyalty to Stan Bowman was the main takeaway from their comments.

Perhaps it would’ve been better if the two future Hall of Famers said nothing at all…
