Los Angeles Dodgers Lost $125 Million This Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series, but they also lost big time. The Athletic reported that Major League Baseball lost roughly $3.1 billion during the 2020 season. However the Dodgers only lost $125 million of that amount.

“We are going to be at historic high levels of debt,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred told Sportico on Monday. “And it’s going to be difficult for the industry to weather another year where we don’t have fans in the ballpark and have other limitations on how much we can’t play and how we can play.”

The star-studded Major League Baseball franchise — which pulled off a dramatic, 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 6 of the championship series on Tuesday night — has nonetheless been slammed with about $125 million in losses this season, The Post has learned. A source close to the team, however, said the losses come after the Dodgers turned the corner last year, making about $60 million in profits for the 2019 season. The source added that if MLB had canceled the 2020 season, the Dodgers would have lost a lot less.

In a very strange season that spanned only 60 regular season games and numerous game postponements due to the coronavirus pandemic, MLB was still able to crown a champion.

But it came at a price.

Thank goodness because we all need sport now more than ever.
