While the sports world collectively lost its mind with the Lionel Messi news, outspoken Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin had to get his two cents in.

Kiffin joked that Messi’ should join his team’s kicking competition. But there’s one condition: he’s not actually going to kick field goals.

“#ComeToTheSip kicking competition is wide open. Only extra points and kickoffs!” Kiffin said.

Lane Kiffin’s aggressive nature is well-documented, and apparently he wouldn’t even kick a field goal on 4th down if Lionel Messi was at his disposal.

All jokes aside, this is the end of an era, and it’ll be weird to see Barcelona playing without Messi next season.

“Despite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles (Spanish Liga regulations),” Barcelonasaid in their statement.

“As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled.”

Despite Lane Kiffin’s fun, Lionel Messi will now be the most highly coveted athlete in all of sports. The sweepstakes should be fun.
