Leicester Tigers Look For Some Magic In The Signing Of Harry Potter

The Leicester Tigers are excited about the future of their rugby club after the signing of Harry Potter. Potter is well known for Quidditch but recently decided to hang up his broom and try his hand at rugby. Fine, be that way. Harry Potter is actually an English professional rugby player. Potter shares his name with the famous fictional Wizard and the Leicester Tigers had fun exploiting it when they announced his signing.

“You’re a Tiger, Harry!” Leicester tweeted early Wednesday morning.

The Tigers also tweeted a video from the first Harry Potter film of Harry wearing the sorting hat. The scene is familiar to Potter fans, but Leicester used their editing skills to add a fun little twist.

As far as I know, Harry Potter isn’t a wizard like his fictional counterpart, but the Tigers hope for some magic displays out of the star back. Fans certainly hope so too as they have already used the Potter franchise to make several punny jokes.

“Letโ€™s hope heโ€™ll be Slytherin over the try line regularly,โ€ one fan wrote, while another added โ€œCommentator: he does love to run *pause* diagon-ally.โ€ Even Tigers’ head coach Geordan Murphy chimed in saying he hopes the signing “enchants” Tigers fans. Out of all the jokes the internet shared in reference to the Potterverse, a few fan favorites rose to the top:

Rumor has it that Ron Weasley is on his way to Leicester too, but I’m not sure there is any truth to that. Potter may not be a wizard, but this has to be great publicity for English professional rugby. The Leicester Tigers will be missing a lay-up of a marketing opportunity if they fail to capitalize on the addition of Potter. There is definitely someone in the Tiger clubhouse floating ideas around as you read this. I’m sure there are plenty of companies out there willing to help with the execution. As a Potter fan, I hope help will be given at Leicester to those who ask for it.
