Lakers to Visit White House After President Trump Gets the Boot

Championship winning NBA teams have broken with tradition since President Obama was in office. Not wanting to associate themselves with President Trump, teams have chosen to skip the annual White House visit. That appears to be changing with the transfer of power, Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Los Angeles Lakers, including LeBron James and Anthony Davis, will visit President-Elect Joe Biden sometime this year. Biden will take office on January 20th.

The Los Angeles Lakers are looking forward to reconvening a post-championship tradition of visiting the White House at some point during the 2020-21 season after President-elect Joe Biden is sworn into office as the 46th President of the United States, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The ceremonial transferring of power from President Donald Trump to Biden takes place on Jan. 20.

Members of the franchise — from players to management — see it as a pleasure and an honor to have their accomplishment recognized by the incoming president, but reconvening the tradition this season shall depend on logistics, sources said.

President Trump is clearly not a favorite of NBA players. Superstar LeBron James has been a vocal critic of the president throughout his term in office.

Following that spat, no team ever even considered visiting President Trump. Looks like Lebron James and the NBA are Ridin’ with Biden for the next four years.
