Henrik Lundqvist Sends Heartfelt Message To New York After Announcing Retirement

Henrik Lundqvist was one of the most dominant players we’ve seen over the past decade. And he definitely has a place in New York Rangers history as one of the best goaltenders to lace em up.

After struggling with injuries over the last few seasons, Lundqvist has finally decided to walk away from the NHL.

In doing so, the 39-year-old sent a long message to social media to make his announcement.

“For the last 30 years, I have devoted my life to the game of hockey…and now it’s time to walk away from the game I love and begin a new chapter,” Henrik Lundqvist wrote. “The future excites me. I’ve met so many amazing people over the years that will help to guide and inspire me in my new journey.”

Of course, Henrik Lunqvist gave a special shout out the New York in his heartfelt goodbye.

“Thank you, New York Rangers and New York City,” Lundqvist said. “I’m a born Swede, but I’ll always feel like a New Yorker thanks to you.”

Henrik Lunqvist spent 15 seasons in the Big Apple as a consistent performer in the net, and fan favorite in a city where that label doesn’t come too easily.

It’s safe to say that Henrik Lundqvist will always have a home in NYC.
