Demar Derozan Reportedly Wants Out Of San Antonio

Demar Derozan’s career has been full of adversity. He gave his heart and soul to the Toronto Raptors, only for them to send him off the second they could pull the trigger on a Kawhi Leonard deal.

I understand, that’s the business. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck, though. Now it appears that Derozan has had enough of San Antonio.

The agent doesn’t delve into much detail here, except for saying that Derozan has a strong relationship with Pistons coach Dwayne Casey. Casey was Demar’s coach in Toronto, and maybe that could make Detroit a potential landing spot.

Here’s what Derozan had to say about his upcoming free agency in July.

Derozan deflected the question saying, “There’s so much going on in the world that, you know, I put that in play before I even think about my next year.”

While he doesn’t say whether he’s happy in San Antonio, he doesn’t really sound like a guy who wants to play for the Spurs next season, either.

DeRozan is set to make a decision this offseason on his 2020-21 player option which is worth over $27 million.  Even if he is unhappy, leaving all that money on the table could be tough.

For what it’s worth, I’d like to see Demar Derozan on a real contender. This guy has paid his dues, it’s time for him to make a real run at a championship. He has also been loosely linked to the Heat, Lakers, Bulls, and Hornets. It goes without saying that any team would be lucky to add Derozan, if he does decide to leave San Antonio.
