Connor McDavid is being trashed over the web, and it has nothing to do with his play on the ice.
The Oilers phenom was asked point blank by media members whether he would welcome troubled star Evander Kane on his team. And instead of deflecting the question to the hockey ops people (like most players would have done), McDavid decided to give an answer about not caring what the public perception is around his team.
“I’m not really here to discuss optic issues. If fans don’t like it, or the media doesn’t like it, or whatever. It is what it is,” Connor McDavid said.
"If fans don’t like it, or the media doesn’t like it, or whatever… it is what it is."

Fans didn’t have a positive reaction to Connor McDavid’s comments about Evander Kane.
We all talk about putting McDavid out of his misery and how bad we feel for him having to deal with the Oilers being the Oilers, but he's been part of the decision making process for years now. It's his mess too. It's a shame for the sport, but I don't feel as bad for him anymore https://t.co/FEZDe0Fq0V

McDavid has been losing for so long that he’s willing to overlook literally everything in an effort to make it to the second round this season. This is the face of the NHL. Pathetic. https://t.co/CMRRJmJLFw

Either McDavid is so dead inside that he would have said that about any player you’d put in front of him, or he genuinely believes winning overtakes character regardless of the situation and confirmed what we’ve been saying about hockey culture this whole time.
Probably both. https://t.co/ugMMnKvH6t

Fans were obviously so taken aback by Connor McDavid’s comments because of Evander Kane’s history.
In the past, Kane has been accused of sexual assault, domestic battery, gambling on hockey, etc. And on top of that, he has been trashed for being a bad teammate in his previous stops.
As of now, Evander Kane remains a free agent. But with the Oilers struggling, the rumor mill is churning out a link between Kane and Edmonton.
Clearly, Connor McDavid doesn’t care how awful of a human being Kane is if he can help the team get over the hump.
