Brian Kelly Makes An Interesting Remark About Notre Dame’s Playoff Destiny

Notre Dame is in a great position to land a spot in the college football playoff, even with a loss to Clemson on Saturday. However, coach Brian Kelly is unsure Notre Dame would be willing to accept their bid under certain circumstances. Coach Kelly made some interesting remarks in a press conference Friday afternoon about the possibility of having to compete in the playoffs without family members in attendance. Surprisingly, he is starkly against that idea.

Notre Dame has had a pretty stellar season. It seems odd that Brian Kelly would be so against the idea of having to compete for a title in the absence of family members.

“I’m not sure if we’ll play in the playoffs if parents can’t be there,” Brian Kelly said in the press confernce. “Why would we play if parents can’t be there?”

Kelly went on to rant about playing games without loved ones present, saying “If you can’t have families at bowl games why would you go to the game if your families can’t be part of it.”

Brian Kelly is clearly no Dabo Swinney. There is no way Dabo would say anthing like this, despite how freezing cold most of his takes are. Why on eaarth would you pass up the chance to compete for a national chapionship? Isn’t that what you are playing for at the end of the day?

Brian Kelly said that he was “unsure” he would play under the circumstances, but I think he knows in the bottom of his heart that this isn’t an opportunity you can pass up on. I get the feeling he means well, but he has to understand that electing to opt out of the college football playoff would be robbing his players of a golden opportunity. That simply isn’t fair. Coach Brian Kelly should think twice before seriously considering backing out on a chance at competing for a national championship.
