Tampa Bay Bucs Receiver Mike Evans Explains Role in Fight That Lead to One Game Suspension

Fans aren’t the only ones fighting in NFL stadiums.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New Orleans Saints got into a wild brawl during NFL Sunday after tempers flared between the NFC South rivals. The on the field fight started after Saints player Marshon Lattimore got into the face of Leonard Fournette and Tom Brady following a deep incompletion. Lattimore drew the attention of Bucs receiver Mike Evans, who came over and gave Lattimore a nice little crushing.

See Evans’ hit on Lattimore:

Both Evans and Lattimore were ejected for their roles in the skirmish.

Mike Evans was asked about his ejection during his media availability after Tampa Bay’s 20-10 win over the Saints.  He didn’t believe the brawl was that big of a deal, and just chalked it up to the rivalry between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Saints.

“It gets spicy when you come to New Orleans,” the veteran receiver said.

I know we were trying to get a flag called and he wasn’t calling it. All I see is Lattimore— he punched [Fournette] in the face or something like that. Then, like, pushed Tom [Brady]. That’s all I saw. I just pushed him.

Evans also didn’t think what he did warranted an ejection. He said that he “just pushed” Lattimore and didn’t think it was comparable to the hit he laid on the Saints cornerback in 2017.

“That was really a cheap shot,” Evans said. “This wasn’t.”

As we now know Evans will out one game for his role in the fight, hope it was worth it.
