Rumor: 49ers Head Coach Was Talked Out Of Signing Tom Brady In 2020 NFL Free Agency

Niners fans are probably going to be kicking themselves after reading this.

There has been a lot of talk about what could have been with Tom Brady if he didn’t end up playing in Tampa,  which we know worked out pretty well for Tom.  There has been rampant rumors about other teams that almost landed the NFL’s all time winningest QB. The latest rumors might make San Francisco 49ers fans pretty nauseous,  as their head coach was interested in signing Tom back in 2020. However, something happened that stopped Kyle Shanahan from making the trade. Apparently the Niners brass talked Shanahan out of signing Brady back in 2020 when he was a free agent, per Dov Kleiman.

It sure feels like Tom Brady spoke with any franchise who would listen throughout the last two years after leaving the Patriots.

The Niners have been pretty successful without Tom over the last several years, but just imagine how good they could have been with him. Tom certainly would have taken them over the top, at least you’d like imagine that he would have  at this point. Plus there’s the fact that Tom is a huge Niners fan, his favorite team growing up. It could have been a beautiful marriage.

Tom is most likely in his final year in the NFL, but for whatever reason, people are still connecting him to other teams. If Trey Lance doesn’t pan out, San Francisco fans are definitely going to be kicking themselves for passing on Tom Brady when he was available.
