Report: One Team Still Actively Trying To Acquire Baker Mayfield

Since NFL camps are back in action, it appears as though the Baker Mayfield market is really down to just one team: the Carolina Panthers. But today, a report claims otherwise.

For a while, it was believed that either the Panthers or Seahawks would jump at the possibility of landing Mayfield. And perhaps Seattle is still involved in a potential deal.

“I’m told the #Seahawks still have a high-level of interest in acquiring QB Baker Mayfield and behind-the-scenes are open to contractually extending him, per league source. I also know that the process of collecting information and insights into Mayfield is still ongoing,” NFL insider Josina Anderson reports.

For now, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has maintained that he’s content with the current QB battle between Drew Lock and Geno Smith. But one would have to believe that Baker Mayfield would be a slight upgrade over those two guys.

This week, it was reported that the Browns are now willing to take on half of Mayfield’s contract to make a deal more enticing for prospective teams.

Even with the season around the corner, it doesn’t seem like Baker Mayfield will be putting on a Browns uniform every again. And perhaps he’ll find himself as the heir-apparent to Russell Wilson in Seattle.
