Baker Mayfield Now Being Linked to the Buccaneers

The Buccaneers are in the market for a veteran QB to back up Tom Brady.

Enter Baker Mayfield,  who is currently looking  for another to team to play for after he was replaced as the starter in Cleveland by Deshaun Watson.

Tampa Bay Bucs general manager  Jason Licht didn’t name anyone specifically, but it appears Baker is on their radar to backup potentially backup Tom Brady.

“I don’t want to talk about a player that’s on another team’s roster right now, but we may still add a veteran quarterback,” Licht said Wednesday on SiriusXM’s “Mad Dog Sports Radio” when asked about the possibility of adding Mayfield as a veteran quarterback to back up Brady.

“We’re going to have to see how it goes here.”

The Bucs do currently have two other QB’s on the roster.

“Kyle is somebody that we’ve been really excited about, and his progression last year, as a backup quarterback, just learning behind Tom, learning behind Blaine,” Licht said. “We’re really excited about him and I think he’s just going to continue to develop. We had Blaine last year on our roster, and that could be a possibility still. We’re still checking out the entire market here, and we’ll see what happens here.”

At one point the Bucs were willing to hand over the keys to Kyle Trask during Tom’s short retirement.

At this point adding Baker may be too many cooks in the kitchen. Plus who knows when Tom is officially going to  ride off into the sunset…
