Baker Mayfield Now Being Linked to One Team

Baker Mayfield to the Lions?

Apparently the Lions are looking for a new QB. Reportedly the Lions were keeping an eye on Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett prior to the draft. The Lions did not take a QB in the draft, which leads some to believe they may still be in the market for another signal caller. Clearly the Lions aren’t all in on Jared Goff as their long term franchise QB.

Should the Lions decide to add another quarterback, might Baker Mayfield be the answer? Mayfield is still owed $19 million next season, which is why he’s still on the Browns roster. Jeff Darlington among others believes the Browns need to take on that money and cut bait with him to get something in return.

Via 247Sports:

“The Browns have to get out of their own way,” Darlington said on The Rich Eisen Show. “They’re not going to keep him on the team. That’s a ridiculous notion that he could still be on the roster this season. I understand they owe him $19 million guaranteed no matter what. But if a team trades for him, they’re not paying that $19 million. The Browns have to pay for most of it and until their number comes down, they’re not going to make that move. They see no rush, no urgency since the draft is over but that’s still gotta be the next shoe to drop. To think that Baker is on your roster after all of this is just a ludicrous concept.”

Baker is still being linked to the Lions whether the Lions are seriously interested?  Well that’s anyone’s guess.

Jared Goff finished the season on a positive note, but he’s not the kind of QB that can carry a franchise on his back. He’s logged enough games where we know what Goff brings to the table.

Would Baker make the Lions QB situation any better? Probably not. I’m not expecting Baker to be on the Lions come next season.
