Nets Reportedly Unwilling To Bargain With Kyrie Irving After Last Season

The Brooklyn Nets may be preparing for a future without Kyrie Irving.

Even though the star point guard is eligible for a massive contract extension this offseason, a report is indicating that won’t be happening.

Per New York Daily News:

“This is why the Nets’ championship hopes hinge on an amicable solution with Irving, whose personal decision not to get vaccinated and unpredictable injury history have left the Nets hesitant, and now, according to a source familiar with the Nets’ thought process, outright unwilling to give him a long-term extension.”

This shouldn’t come as that big of a surprise after Nets GM Sean Marks called out Kyrie Irving following their opening round loss to the Celtics.

“I think that’s something we’ve been discussing, and we will continue to debrief on and discuss throughout this offseason,” Marks said. “It’s honestly not just Kyrie, we have decisions to make on a variety of free agents. We haven’t had any of those discussions yet, so it would be unfair for me to comment on how it looks for us and Kyrie, because to be quite frank he has some decisions to make on his own..

For now, Kyrie Irving appears to be committed to the Nets for the long haul. But that could change after he hears the team’s rhetoric towards him.
