NBA Insider Sheds Light On Potential Russell Westbrook-Kyrie Irving Deal

Would a Russell Westbrook for Kyrie Irving swap really makes sense this Summer?

Given where each point guard stands with their respective organization, the idea has been floated by many in and around NBA circles since the Nets were eliminated earlier in the postseason.

During an appearance on “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd, The Athletic’s Bill Oram spoke on a potential for a Kyrie Irving-Russell Westbrook trade this Summer.

“I don’t think it’s nuts,” Oram said of a Westbrook-Irving trade. “I don’t know that it’s going to happen, but from a logical standpoint it makes sense. From a logical standpoint, the Nets are absolutely sick of the Kyrie Irving experience. The Lakers are sick of the Russell Westbrookexperience. That said, the Nets know they have the better player and the better asset despite all of his idiosyncrasies.”

Despite the whole idea, Lakers head coach Darvin Ham stood by Russell Westbrook during his introductory press conference on Monday afternoon.

“Russ is one of the best players our league has ever seen, and still there’s still a ton left in that tank,” he said.

So for now, it appears the idea that Russell Westbrook being traded for Kyrie Irving is just some nonsense being floated by some talking heads. But perhaps that could changes all the offseason progresses…
