Michael Jordan bleeds Carolina blue.
The Charlotte Hornets drafted Duke center Mark Williams in the first round Thursday night. The 7-foot-2 Williams was the 2021 ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan couldnât resist making a Duke joke when he called Mark Williams to welcome him to Buzz City.
âHello Mark,â MJ began the conversation. âCongratulations, man. Welcome.
âIâm looking forward to it, man⊠I hope youâll get in the gym and start working on your game and make a difference.â
âYes, sir. Right away,â Williams replied.
âAnd een though youâre a Dookie, I take pride in that we did draft you,â Jordan told Williams on the phone.
âYeah, I appreciate that. Gotta put the beef aside,â Williams wisely responded, making Jordan laugh.
Best. Phone Call. Ever. #NBADraft | @MarkWi1liams pic.twitter.com/4xd2ad2yAc

Back in 2015, Jordan admitted:
âSometimes itâs hard to put those feelings away. Thereâs something about our blood that makes it very difficult to choose a Duke player,â adding, âThis is a business. Sometimes we have to supersede our feelings.â
Sounds like MJ is getting soft in his old age. . .
