ESPN Reporter Getting Trashed for Calling Game 5 Win A ‘Checkbook Win for the Warriors’

Brian Windhorst has an interesting take on the Warriors Game 5 win.

The Golden State Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics 104-94 in Game 5 of the 2022 NBA Finals on Monday to take a 3-2 series lead heading to Boston for Game 6 on Thursday. Steph Curry struggled mightily but his teammates picked up the slack and came away with the pivotal Game 5 win. Following the game ESPN NBA reporter Brian Windhorst did a live spot on ESPN, and made sure to point out the reason the Warriors won.

According to Windhorst, the Warriors won because they spend a lot of money.

Twitter went in on Windhorst.

Everyone always talks about the East Coast bias at ESPN, but this is too much. Calling the win a “Checkbook Win” is one of the dumbest things I’ve heard, considering how much all these players make, on both teams. That’s a narrative some joker came up with, probably wasn’t even Windhorst who thought of it.

Game 6 on Thursday night in Boston should be a good one. Hope the Warriors bring their checkbook.
