Cavaliers Reportedly ‘Not Proceeding with the Intention’ of Signing LeBron

Looks like there’s no reunion between LeBron James and the Cavs in sight.

The Los Angeles Lakers star has until Thursday to sign an extension with the Lakers. If he chooses not to sign, then he will be a free agent in the summer of 2023. So naturally LeBron is being linked to rejoining his former squad. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst has already brought that possibility to the forefront. Except, the Cavaliers are not thinking like that, reports Joe Varden of The Athletic, who is as tuned in as anyone to the Cavaliers.

Via The Athletic:

“The Cavs are not proceeding with the intention of getting LeBron for a third time… I think family weighs too heavily into this, and the easiest move for him is to stay with the Lakers.

The Cavaliers are building something of their own and they don’t need LeBron getting in the way of any growth of their young core.

Some believe LeBron and the Lakers will agree to a 1+1 extension, keeping him with the team through 2024 but giving him the option of leaving that summer to play with his son Bronny.

Which is all he seems to care about at this stage of his career.
