Rory McIlroy Pays Respect to Scottie Scheffler After Thrilling Come From Behind Win at Tour Championship

Scottie Scheffler had the PGA Tour Championship all but locked up heading into Sunday’s round.

After a dominant season, he was six strokes up before even teeing off on Sunday. But somehow, he let the lead slip away, and Rory McIlroy was there to capitalize.

Pouncing on Scheffler’s inability to find the fairway with his driving or get the putter going, McIlroy charge to a final round 66 to steal the championship right from Scheffler’s grasp.

Even though Rory McIlroy came out the winner, he couldn’t help but tip his cap to the incredible season pulled off by Scottie Scheffler.

“What a week, what a day. I feel like Scottie deserves at least half of this today,” McIlroy said via Golfweek. “I feel sort of bad that I pipped him to the post. He’s a hell of a competitor and an even better guy. It was an honor and a privilege to battle with him today. I’m sure there will be many more. I told him we’re 1-all in Georgia. He got the Masters and I got this.”

This entire season, Rory McIlroy has made himself the poster boy for the PGA, speaking out against the rival LIV Golf tour, and he remained faithful to the PGA following the triumphant win.

I believe in the game of golf. I believe in this tour, in particular. I believe in the players on this tour,” McIlroy said in the trophy presentation. “It’s the greatest place in the world to play golf, bar none, and I’ve played all over.”
