Duke Coach Jon Scheyer Reacts To The Tragic Highland Park Shooting

Once again, the sports world is in a position of grieving following another mass shooting in our country.

This time, the tragic incident occurred in Highland Park — a small suburb just 30 minutes from Chicago.

Duke head coach Jon Scheyer — who grew up in a neighboring suburbs of Highland Park — released a statement following the shooting.

“My heart is with the people of Highland Park, IL—a town just minutes from where I grew up,” he wrote. “This is a preventable epidemic. It has to stop.”

Many other athletes around the Chicago area and the world joined Jon Scheyer in speaking out against the July 4th shooting in Highland Park.

Of whom included former Bears offensive lineman Kyle Long, who openly asked how we can’t stop gunmen with so many red flags prior to their attacks.

At the end of the day, the same sentiment being shared by Jon Scheyer and so many other people across the country seems to be an obvious one:

Something needs to change in this country, and fast.
